Cloud native computing helps organizations take maximum advantage of the cloud by efficiently using cloud resources and enabling elastic scale and fast, reliable, and secure software deployments. However, these benefits require organizations to transform IT roles and adopt new internal processes.

Key areas of change include the following:

Development. To the extent possible, development and test processes should be automated, which enables both rapid development and deployment and  higher reliability and security in part by the elimination of human error – essential for high-scale cloud native applications. Automated development processes employ a “pipeline” whose operation is initiated when a developer checks in a new version of code. An automated process can compile the code, rebuild the application, and execute test suites, vulnerability detection, antivirus scans, and open source checks. If all the tests pass, then the code can be placed into either a staging location for final verification or the production site. This type of automation is called continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD).
