The Microsoft Desktop Optimization Pack (MDOP) is a set of utilities for virtualization, management, and recovery of Windows. The latest version includes the following:
- Application virtualization (App-V) lets applications run in an isolated environment on each user’s computer and it can deploy and update the applications from centrally managed servers
- BitLocker Administration and Monitoring (which Microsoft calls MBAM) is used with BitLocker, Microsoft’s full disk encryption product, to simplify BitLocker deployment, key recovery, monitoring, policy enforcement, and reporting of encryption status for fixed and removable drives
- User Experience Virtualization (UE-V) is not a virtualization technology per se, but it allows users to maintain the same applications settings when using different devices, such as PCs or tablets
- Diagnostics and Recovery Toolset (DaRT) provides tools for diagnosing and repairing unbootable Windows PCs or balky applications and recovering lost or deleted
