SidebarDesktop Refresh Process
The Business Desktop Deployment (BDD) Standard Accelerator supports the following process for refreshing existing PCs with Windows XP. (For larger organizations, the BDD Enterprise Accelerator prescribes a similar process but depends on Systems Management Server [SMS] to automatically deploy images to the target desktops, which eliminates the need for technician visits during the deployment phase.)
Preparation Phase
1. Set up deployment file servers, inventory hardware and software in use, collect user requirements, and specify the various standard configurations the organization plans to deploy.
2. Run the Microsoft Application Compatibility Toolkit (AppCompat) 3.0 across all candidate desktops to identify and correct applications with known compatibility issues with Windows XP. (AppCompat 4.0 is in beta and is designed to identify additional issues related to Windows XP SP2.)
3. Run the Access 2003 Conversion Toolkit across all candidate desktops to identify and remediate databases that are not compatible with Access 2003.
