SidebarOther Exchange Hosted Services
Microsoft hosts mail security and archiving services for Exchange Online that can also provide an Internet front end to an on-premises Exchange system. The services include the following:
Exchange Online Protection removes malware, spam, and inappropriate content from e-mail. Exchange Online Protection is included with all Exchange Online subscriptions, and customers who have Software Assurance on the Exchange Enterprise Client Access License (CAL) are offered Exchange Online Protection as a form of compensation for the loss of Forefront Protection for Exchange, an on-premises product that has been discontinued.
Exchange Online Archiving (a part of the Office 365 services) archives e-mail in an off-site repository to help enforce communication and records-retention policies. For on-premises deployments, the service only works with Exchange 2010 SP1 and later. A previous service called Exchange Hosted Archive offered similar functionality with support for earlier versions of Exchange. Customers of that service are being moved to Exchange Online Archiving.
