While Microsoft’s Product Use Rights (PUR) document details many aspects of licensing, it is not a one-stop shop for all product and online service-related licensing information. For example, customers should consult one or more of the following documents for certain licensing information:

  • The monthly Product List details many Software Assurance (SA) benefits, including some upgrade entitlements and training and deployment planning benefits
  • The customer’s Enterprise Agreement (EA), EA Enrollment, and Select/Select Plus contracts explain which quarterly PUR publication applies to license purchases, as well as rules governing use of volume licensing media and transfer of licenses to other business entities
  • Each product’s licensing Web pages, downloadable licensing guides, and licensing briefs describe features covered by each of the product’s licenses, additional license requirements (such as the Windows Server and SQL Server licenses required by SharePoint Server), and other product-specific
