The WSS and Office Server updates also deliver fixes to Project Server 2007 for problems with custom fields, cost resources, and other areas. Most Project customers will eventually want to install these updates and a related Project client update, but the updates introduce some new features and change the behavior of others, so due caution and some end-user testing will be required.

The fixes for the Project line are delivered in three update packages, which should be installed in the following order:

The Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 update affects Project Server’s Web Access user interface and other features.

The Office Servers update fixes problems in Project Server 2007 with performance, logging, and migration from Project 2003. It also addresses a variety of bugs in handling custom fields, which enable attachment of organization-defined data (such as contract codes) to tasks and other Project data. New features include sorting in the Web Access views for personal tasks (My Tasks) and timesheets, addition of “remaining work” fields on timesheets, and more flexibility for field arrangement on timesheet displays. The update also delivers new features for viewing the Project Server internal queues (e.g., filters for viewing blocked jobs), which could help administrators diagnose problems on the server.
