Price rise. Price of Remote Desktop Services (RDS) Client Access License (CAL) and External Connector raised 5%.

October 2009

New licensing suites include server licenses for the Windows Server OS. Windows Server licenses (server only) available for purchase via Core Infrastructure Server Suites, bundles which also include System Center management licenses (for Configuration Manager, Data Protection Manager, Operations Manager, and Virtual Machine Manager), and Forefront Client Security, which offers malware protection for the servers. (The Core Infrastructure Server Suites were initially called the Enrollment for Core Infrastructure; see “New Enrollments Provide Broad Server Licensing” on page 26 of the Sept. 2009 Update.)

September 2009

Windows Server 2008 R2 available. Customers with Software Assurance (SA) active as of Sept. 1, 2009, on server licenses for Windows Server 2008 are entitled to upgrade to Windows Server 2008 R2.
