The multitude of options in the Microsoft Partner Program (MSPP) may be confusing to many new partners. Here are some of the most important activities a partner can undertake to extract value from their relationship with Microsoft.

Register. If you’re not a partner, become one. Initial signup is relatively easy and costs nothing. You can then access many other resources on the partner site.

Create a good profile. Partners can create profiles that will help other partners or customers locate them. Profiles give other partners and customers a better idea of a partner’s skills and experience, and will be used in Microsoft’s partner search engines. Profiles are free and a good one can significantly increase the chances that someone looking for the type of services, software, or hardware you offer will find you.

Think locally. Small or newer partners can get a boost from the local Microsoft office-if Microsoft’s local representatives know the partners are around. Partners can meet people from the local Microsoft office and get tips from other partners by attending local events and seminars. Partners will typically be informed by e-mail of events in their area, or can click on the “Events” link at partner.Microsoft.com.
