The Visual Studio Team Foundation Server (TFS) software and Visual Studio Team Services Microsoft-hosted service offer task management for software development and IT projects. In particular, they provide team task management and project management integrated with software source code control, build, testing, release management, and other services.

A Web interface (Team Web Access) enables stakeholders in a project, including developers, operations personnel, and executives, to view and update tasks and other project information. Developers and other technical team members can access and update tasks in the Visual Studio integrated development environment.

The current versions of TFS and Team Services also integrate with Microsoft Project technologies, which can help organizations manage large development projects. However, Project integration will not be available in the next major version of TFS, which is code-named TFS 15 and will probably appear in late 2016 or early 2017. Organizations that want the new version of TFS and Project integration will need to turn to a third party, such as Tivitie.
