SidebarWhat Is Intune?
Launched Mar. 23, 2011, Windows Intune is a Microsoft Online subscription service for Windows client PCs that is hosted at Microsoft but operated by customer administrators or managed service providers. Intune also includes rights to Windows Upgrades and the optional Desktop Optimization Pack (which Microsoft calls MDOP).
PC Management, Malware Protection, and Client OS
Intune allows organizations to implement software update management, malware protection, PC monitoring and remote assistance, hardware and software inventorying, and security policy management using online services hosted in Microsoft data centers rather than using an on-premises management and security infrastructure. For example, IT staff can be alerted if PCs experience problems, configure updates and security policies, and remotely share control of the user’s desktop and perform troubleshooting or diagnostics to resolve an issue or provide how-to guidance. For managed service providers, Intune provides the ability to manage multiple customers through one administration portal.
