Select Plus and the original Select (Select “classic”) are volume license programs for medium and large organizations (generally 250 or more PCs). Both programs are transactional in nature, meaning customers can purchase whatever they like, ad hoc, in any quantity, at the time of their choosing. Select programs carry no obligations other than certain minimum aggregate license purchase volumes.

Select programs have steeper purchase volume requirements than Microsoft’s Open programs but provide deeper discounts, and Select programs offer a more targeted approach to license purchases than Microsoft’s organization-wide licensing program, the Enterprise Agreement (EA). For medium and large companies that don’t have an EA, Select programs are the best option for acquiring Microsoft licenses. For organizations that already have active EAs, Select programs can be used to expand the set of licensing options beyond what’s available through an EA or to achieve lower licensing costs in some circumstances.
