Major developments in Microsoft’s database, application development, and Web products since the Mar. 2007 Enterprise Software Roadmap include the following:

SQL Server 2008, the follow-on to SQL Server 2005, was formally announced and previews were released
A beta of Visual Studio 2008, the next version of Microsoft’s developer tools suite, was released
Silverlight 1.0, the initial release of Microsoft’s platform for RIAs, shipped
An alpha version of Silverlight 1.1, which adds the .NET Framework, was released
Visual Studio 2005 was updated for Vista compatibility
Development stopped on Visual FoxPro; the currently available version 9.0 will be the final version
BizTalk Server 2006 R2 was released, delivering new features for EDI, RFID tag tracking, and integration with .NET Framework workflow and messaging APIs
The Host Integration Server mainframe/midrange integration software was incorporated into BizTalk Server 2006 R2 and discontinued as a separate product
