Major developments in Microsoft’s database, application development, and Web products since the July 2015 Enterprise Software Roadmap include the following:
- SQL Server 2016 is currently in a preview period (Community Technology Preview) that uses a rapid release program that includes frequent updates, although organizations can choose to stay on any release for testing purposes.
- Power BI received a major overhaul in July 2015 that removes the dependency on SharePoint Online and Excel; current customers must migrate by the end of 2015.
- Visual Studio 2015 (which includes the .NET Framework 4.6) became generally available in July 2015.
- Team Foundation Server 2015 became generally available in Aug. 2015.
- Visual Studio 2013 Update 5 became generally available in July 2015.
- Visual Studio 2015 Update 1 Release Candidate became available in Oct. 2015.
- The Apps for Office extensibility model of the Office suite was renamed to Office Add-ins with the general availability
