Major developments for Microsoft’s business applications roadmap since the Sept. 2014 Enterprise Software Roadmap include the following:

  • Multitouch Office applications for Windows 10 were demonstrated in Nov. 2014 and will probably appear in the third quarter of 2015 with a new version of the Office desktop suite (called Office 16 in this report).
  • A new version of Outlook for Mac became available to some Office 365 customers in Oct. 2014; a new version of the Office suite for Mac is planned for 2015.
  • Preview Word, Excel, and PowerPoint apps for Google Android tablets were announced in Nov. 2014.
  • Office, SharePoint, Project, and Visio 2010 versions require SP2 for support after Oct. 14, 2014.
  • Lync is being renamed to Skype for Business, and the next major release (previously planned for 2014) is now expected in the first half of 2015.
  • Lync client updates continued through the quarter with new meeting management features and support for Android tablets.
