Major developments in Microsoft’s platform products since the last published issue (Mar. 2005) include the following:

  • The Visual Studio Team Server and special Team System editions of the Visual Studio 2005 integrated development environment (IDE) have been delayed to the first half of 2006. The standalone editions of the IDE (such as Visual Studio 2005 Professional Edition and Express Edition) will ship in late 2005.
  • Speech Server 2004 R2 was released, with support for additional languages (such as Canadian French) and better support for single-server configurations
  • Business Scorecard Manager, an application for business performance analysis using key performance indicators (KPIs) calculated from SQL Server and other data stores, was announced for release in late 2005
  • Eight iWay BizTalk Server adapters, including adapters for J.D. Edwards, PeopleSoft, and Siebel, were acquired by Microsoft in Aug. 2005
  • The next version of Host Integration Server, code-named Dawson, was
