Major developments in Microsoft’s database, application development, and Web products since the Sept. 2006 Enterprise Software Roadmap include the following:
- SQL Server 2005 SP2 shipped in Feb. 2007; it delivers many new features and is required for compatibility with Windows Vista and Windows Server Longhorn.
- A substantially improved Web-based collaboration and document management platform, Windows SharePoint Services (WSS) 3.0, shipped in Nov. 2006, along with the latest version of SharePoint Server (formerly SharePoint Portal Server), which builds on the platform.
- SharePoint Designer replaced FrontPage (now discontinued) in Nov. 2006 as Microsoft’s primary tool for WSS and SharePoint Server customization.
- The .NET Framework 3.0 shipped in Nov. 2006, delivering several important developer technologies, including the Windows Presentation Foundation, Windows Communication Foundation, Windows Workflow Foundation, and InfoCard.
- Expression Web, a tool for professional Web
