Major changes in Microsoft’s systems management roadmap since the Mar. 2007 Enterprise Software Roadmap include the following:

  • System Center Essentials shipped; the product provides hardware inventory, software distribution, and monitoring for midsized businesses, using Windows Server Update Services 3.0 and Operations Manager 2007 technology
  • Reporting Manager 2006 will not get another stand-alone release, but will be incorporated into the planned Service Manager trouble ticketing and problem resolution product in 2008
  • Forefront Client Security, an enterprise-level tool that provides centralized management for the detection and removal of malicious software on Windows XP and Vista clients, shipped in July 2007
  • A security product, code-named Stirling, will unify the consoles for the Forefront products and is planned for public beta in 2008
  • Identity Lifecycle Manager 2007, which begins the integration of the formerly separate Identity Integration Server and Certificate Lifecycle
