Major changes in Microsoft’s systems management roadmap since the May 2009 Enterprise Software Roadmap include the following:

Releases: Operations Manager 2007 R2 shipped in July 2009 with added support for monitoring platforms other than Windows. The Desktop Optimization Pack 2009 added Microsoft’s Enterprise Desktop Virtualization for central management of VMs running on client PCs and updates to Application Virtualization and Asset Inventory Service.
Previews: A beta version of Configuration Manager 2007 SP2 updates the product for compatibility with Windows 7. A release candidate of Virtual Machine Manager 2008 R2 manages new features of Windows Server 2008 R2. A community technology preview of Service Manager 2010, Microsoft’s planned help desk product, provides incident and problem management.
