Major changes in Microsoft’s systems management, security, and identity management roadmap since the Jan. 2011 Enterprise Software Roadmap include the following:

  • System Center 2012 was announced to include Configuration Manager 2012, Operations Manager 2012, Virtual Machine Manager 2012, Data Protection Manager 2012, Service Manager 2012, Advisor (a new product), Concero (code name for a replacement for the Virtual Machine Manager Self-Service portal), and Orchestrator 2012 (a renaming of Opalis). All will be released in the second half of 2011 with betas appearing in the first half of 2011.
  • Configuration Manager 2012 beta was released in Mar. 2011.
  • AVIcode, acquired in 2010, will be integrated into Operations Manager 2012.
  • Virtual Machine Manager 2008 R2 SP1 was released on Mar. 24, 2011.
  • Virtual Machine Manager 2012 Beta 2 was released in Mar. 2011.
  • Windows Intune became available on a subscription basis on Mar. 23, 2011.
