Major changes in Microsoft’s systems management, security, and identity management roadmap since the Sept. 2010 Enterprise Software Roadmap include the following:

  • Configuration Manager 2007 R3 was released in Oct. 2010 with improved management of PC power settings.
  • Configuration Manager 2012 was announced.
  • Service Manager 2010 SP1 was release in Dec. 2010.
  • Opalis 6.3 was released in Nov. 2010 with integration packs for System Center products.
  • A release candidate of Virtual Machine Manager 2008 R2 SP1 became available in Dec. 2010.
  • Betas of Enterprise Desktop Virtualization 2.0 and Asset Inventory Service 2.0 were released; both will likely appear in the Desktop Optimization Pack 2011.
  • In Oct. 2010, Microsoft changed the licensing terms for Microsoft Security Essentials to allow small businesses to use the antimalware product, which was previously restricted to home use.
  • The Forefront Endpoint Protection 2010 antimalware product became available in Dec. 2010.
