What's New on the Business Application and Messaging Roadmap

Major changes to the roadmap for Microsoft’s business applications and messaging products since our last published version (Mar. 2004) include the following:

  • Office 2003 Service Pack 1 has been announced; due in summer 2004, it delivers new features for the InfoPath 2003 forms application
  • OneNote 2003 Service Pack 1, which delivers new features for Microsoft’s note-taking application, has been announced; it will ship concurrently with Office 2003 SP1
  • Exchange Edge Services, a new edition of Exchange Server 2003 for spam filtering, virus scanning, and other e-mail gateway functions, has been announced with plans for a 2005 release
  • The future Exchange release code-named Kodiak has been removed from Microsoft’s product roadmap, although a release that provides some of Kodiak’s planned features is possible after the release of Windows Longhorn Server in 2007
  • Live Communications Server 2005, which will enhance Microsoft’s instant messaging and presence product for better scalability and
