Major developments in the Windows OS since the Oct. 2007 Enterprise Software Roadmap include the following:

  • Windows Vista SP1 will be released in early 2008 to address bug fixes and reliability and performance problems. It will not introduce new features, but it will change how some features work.
  • Windows Server 2008 will be released in early 2008 and will include new features, such as Network Access Protection, and improvements to existing features, such as Terminal Services.
  • Windows XP SP3, which will be more like a traditional service pack than SP2, will be released in early 2008. It will contain some features, such as the Network Access Protection client designed to support Windows XP with Windows Server 2008.
  • Windows 7 (product name to be announced later) will be the next client release of Windows Vista and will probably be available in 2010. Windows 7 will be available for both 32-bit and 64-bit (x64) processors.
  • Microsoft is working on the eighth version of Internet
