SidebarWindows Embedded Device Manager 2011
In Mar. 2011, Microsoft released Windows Embedded Device Manager (EDM) 2011, which extends the capabilities of System Center Configuration Manager (CM) 2007 so that CM can manage devices based on the Windows Embedded Standard OS, such as Windows Embedded POSReady devices in retail and service organizations.
EDM enables CM to inventory device-specific information and manage device images and configuration.
Device inventory. Embedded devices can be inventoried and included in reports. In addition to basic device information, proxy and Wi-Fi settings, filter settings (filters control the devices ability to write files to local storage), specific Windows Management Instrumentation classes and attributes, Registry keys, and other customizations can be included in the inventory.
Image and configuration management. Images of the devices’ OS, configuration information such as embedded device settings, Internet Explorer settings, and Registry settings can be managed. If a device is using a disk write filter to prohibit storage of applications and data on local storage, the write filter can be automatically disabled while the package is installed and configured and then automatically re-enabled.
