XML Configuration of Mobile Controls

The following is a simplified example of an XML configuration file that adapts Mobile Controls to specific devices:

This snippet shows two different phones manufactured by Nokia. In the first case, the Nokia 7110 supports Wireless Markup Language (WML) 1.1 as indicated by the “preferredRenderingType” tag. The following lines specify the size of the text and screen in characters and pixels. Similarly, the second entry identifies the characteristics of the Nokia 6310, including the fact that its browser supports cookies (as indicated by the “cookies” tag).

Microsoft has produced two Device Updates to ASP.NET Mobile Controls, which extend the set of supported devices by adding new entries to this XML configuration file. Because this configuration is simply an XML file stored on the Web server, ISVs and other developers can extend or modify entries to suit the needs of their specific application.
