Analyst ReportAzure Maps Offers Devs Growing List of Capabilities
- Azure Maps serves rendered maps and geospatial data that developers can integrate into applications.
- The service offers advantages over other mapping services, such as Bing Maps and Google Maps, for certain application requirements.
- Recent updates and future plans show continued Microsoft investment in the service.
Azure Maps could be useful for mobile, Internet of Things (IoT), and other types of applications with geographical mapping and geospatial data requirements.
Rendering, Routing, Traffic Supported
Maps allows developers to build applications that require geospatial data, such as maps, routes, traffic, and point-of-interest and time zone information. The service could improve performance for Azure-based line-of-business applications by eliminating the use of mapping services external to Azure, such as Bing Maps and Google Maps. Free usage allowances could keep costs low for light- to medium-use applications. However, some popular mapping features, such as aerial images and street-side views, are not offered. (Satellite imagery support is in preview.)
