  • Azure Stream Analytics is a real-time data stream event processing product, designed for organizations with SQL Server analytic skills.
  • Expanded on-premises options provide greater control over sensitive data and hybrid configurations.
  • Updates show Microsoft’s commitment to the service with plans for T-SQL parity, VS tools, and Azure data services.

Azure Stream Analytics is a high-speed data stream event processing solution available as a cloud service, and as on-premises software to collect data locally in IoT edge scenarios. The service is designed for traditional Microsoft customers to perform tasks such as processing Web clickstreams and monitoring production equipment with T-SQL, Visual Studio tools, and Azure services like Azure SQL Database. It could provide a good destination for customers migrating on-premises SQL Server analytic workloads or those who need a hybrid environment with cloud and on-premises event processing capabilities. Unlike many other Azure stream event processing services, Stream Analytics does not have open source components, is less flexible than many alternatives, and it limits data inputs and outputs to a limited set of Azure services and data formats.
