Microsoft’s discussions of migrations from the .NET Framework to .NET do not include several advantages the company has relative to its customers:

  • Microsoft has access to its product teams that develop .NET, which substantially speeds support and hotfixes for its internal teams; furthermore, these teams typically encourage and assist internal Microsoft teams in “dogfooding” new versions
  • Microsoft has developers and architects with significant experience, skill, and inherent understanding of .NET behavior, which can expedite planning and optimize designs
  • Microsoft is likely to have greater influence than other customers over partners and third parties that supply application dependencies; this influence makes it easier to obtain timely fixes and upgrades needed for .NET migrations.
