Power BI is previewing Cross-tenant data sharing (middle). The new external data-sharing option is designed to support business-to-business (B2B) activities when all participants also have a Power BI tenant.
Cross-tenant data sharing allows a host (data provider) to open access to select Power BI datasets in the data provider’s tenancy. External partners, vendors, and customers (data consumers) can access the provider’s dataset in-place and build their own reports on a dataset.
Key benefits for the data provider include the following:
- Data is shared in-place, removing the need to copy and transmit large datasets to external users
- Reduces the need to create custom reports for external partners
- It uses Power BI’s built-in security controls that can restrict access to specific users, even across Power BI tenants
- Data providers retain control over the data and can revoke rights as needed.
Key benefits for the data consumer include the following:
- Ensures data consumers have up-to-date
