Power BI is previewing user interface (UI) changes to the portal’s workspace screen (shown here) that will require updates to user training and support processes. The changes to the workspace UI are part of Microsoft’s ongoing improvements to the Power BI portal, which began with the new Home screen in 2018. The workspace UI changes are necessary to accommodate a growing list of supported content types and new features, which make the previous workspace UI impractical. The preview currently applies only to Power BI Pro environments.

Overview

Power BI is Microsoft’s hosted business intelligence (BI) product family. The Power BI portal is a hosted environment where users create, import, collaborate on, and publish content. Inside the portal are Power BI workspaces—secure areas for hosting and controlling access to content—typically used for an individual department, process, or project.

Organizing and Finding Content

The most notable UI change is the consolidation of the previous tabs (Dashboards, Reports, Workbooks, Datasets, and Dataflows) into a new set of tabs (seen in the middle of the illustration):
