- Power BI deployment pipelines (in preview) provide life-cycle controls for managing content.
- Deployment pipelines can alleviate the administrative burden of creating multiple workspaces and help minimize errors when moving content between workspaces.
- Processes are not automated, and pipelines are limited to datasets, reports, and dashboards created with Power BI Desktop.
Deployment pipelines are a new administration tool for Power BI Premium subscriptions available in the Power BI portal. They help administrators control the movement of content through development, testing, and production stages.
Overview
Power BI is a set of Microsoft’s business intelligence (BI) technologies that includes several tightly integrated software and Microsoft-hosted components. Most Power BI content development follows a life-cycle process that involves separate stages, such as development, test, and production. Highly regulated organizations may have additional stages to address compliance requirements. Currently, Power BI customers who want content life-cycle controls must manually create and manage multiple workspaces, each requiring duplicate access rights, data sources, and connection settings, and manually review and copy content between workspaces.
