Teams Phone is a hosted public exchange (PBX) service that works in conjunction with Teams. Teams Phone provides many call control features of traditional on-premises phone systems, including call forwarding, call parking, and delegation. Auto attendant and Call Queue capabilities allow organizations to automatically route inbound calls through a phone tree or distribute them to a pool of eligible agents based on availability. The Queues app, part of Teams Premium, enhances management of attendants and call queues, and contact center solutions from Microsoft (Dynamics 365 Contact Center) and certified third parties can leverage Teams Phone capabilities.

Teams Phone provides PBX capabilities but does not include Calling Plan or other phone service access, which are essential for users to place and receive calls over traditional public switched telephone network (PSTN) phone lines. Customers can choose from several options, which must be acquired separately.
