Fabric Data Science is the machine learning (ML) and AI component in Microsoft Fabric. Data scientists use it to explore and prepare data in notebooks, track experiments and register models with MLflow, score data in batch or through ML model endpoints, and apply AI functions and prebuilt Azure AI services to lakehouse data. The component also uses Fabric data agents, which answer natural-language questions over lakehouses, warehouses, eventhouses, semantic models, and ontologies. It shares Fabric’s workspaces, security, and capacity.

Near-Term Updates and Roadmap (2026–2027)

Microsoft’s focus, in most of its products, is firmly set on AI. In Fabric Data Science, which is already a ML and AI component, that focus is directed at data agents. They reached general availability (GA) in Mar. 2026, became publishable to Copilot Studio and Microsoft Foundry, and in Sept. 2026 gained previews of ontology grounding and larger result sets. The classic ML components received fewer changes, primarily limited to real-time model endpoints that are still in preview.
