The latest major version of Dynamics 365 Customer Engagement (CRM) Online, formerly known as Dynamics CRM Online, became generally available in Dec. 2016 and is referred to as version 9.0. Current and upcoming versions of the online service are shown here.

The Dynamics 365 team plans to deliver new features at least twice a year for Dynamics 365 Customer Engagement (CRM) Online customers, usually in May and December updates, although the actual release dates can vary by several months. On-premises customers should see similar enhancements and fixes in major version releases and service packs, usually around the same time as online updates.

The update process does not require customers to immediately accept new updates to the service. Specifically, customers can remain on their version if it is no more than one version behind the most current major version. For example, the most current major version is 9.0, which means customers can reside on version 8.2 or 9.0. According to Microsoft, customers currently on versions prior to 8.2 will need to accept an update to either version 8.2 or 9.0 by the end of Aug. 2018.
