  • Azure Data Factory improves Native mode with new data transformation features and connectors to more data sources.
  • SQL Server Integration Services mode receives migration tools to help move traditional workloads to the cloud.

Azure Data Factory is a Microsoft-hosted extract, transform, and load (ETL) service that automates data integration and transformation from on-premises, Azure-hosted, and other third-party database sources. The service has two deployment configurations:

  • Native mode with a low-code interface
  • SQL Server Integration Services package hosting mode.

Native Mode Updates

Data Factory features released in 2018 and early 2019 (under the service name ADF V2) continue to advance the Native mode features. Microsoft has not published a timeline for retiring V1 environments, and customers can still deploy new instances of the V1 service.
