Microsoft has several data integration and data transformation offerings that vary by maturity, functionality, and back-end technology, and not all will receive the same level of future Microsoft development. The chart here lists Microsoft’s major extract, transform, and load (ETL) offerings and Directions on Microsoft‘s forecast of future Microsoft investment in each offering, with some of the factors that support the rating.

Factors in our ratings include the following:

Recent and announced Microsoft investment. How much investment has the format received since 2023 or has Microsoft announced for the future? Heavy recent or near-term investment suggests that Microsoft has a longer-term plan for a technology.

Installed base. How many customers are there to fund future investment, and who would be affected by retirement of the offering? Microsoft does not typically publish usage figures for any of the offerings, but history and technology advancements provide a rough estimate.

Functional maturity. Is the offering a new entrant or an established product that meets the majority of customers’ requirements for an ETL tool?
