Copilot for Power BI and Microsoft Fabric is a set of AI-based tools that can expedite writing code, analyze data to look for insights, and perform other tasks like documenting code. Copilot is included in Fabric F64 and higher and Power BI Premium P1 and higher deployments without the need for a separate user subscription. Copilot usage is charged per prompt (natural language input and output) based on the prompt type and size. Resources consumed by Copilot processing in the Azure OpenAI service are deducted from the capacity of the customer’s Fabric or Power BI Premium deployment.

Prompt Type

Prompts are either input or output. 

An input prompt is a user request to Copilot. For example, an input prompt could be “create the Python code to plot a normal distribution of the total sales column” or “build a summary of this Power BI report using bullet points to describe each visual.” 

An output prompt is Copilot’s response to the input prompt. In the previous examples, the Python request might return 20 lines of code, while the Power BI report summary request might be a page of text.
