Charts & IllustrationsAzure SQL Database Management Portal
The Web-based Azure Management Portal allows Azure SQL Database customers to quickly deploy, connect to, and monitor databases on the service. The screen shot shows the Azure Management Portal with an Azure SQL Database (DOM_Suite) selected. Multiple tabs (top) expose features including the following:
- Dashboard—Provides an overall summary of storage and system settings
- Monitor—Shows performance (over time) of key metrics
- Scale—Enables dynamic changes to the tier, performance level, and database size
- Configure—Provides features to automate data exports
- Geo-replication—Enables configuration and deployment of secondary replicas.
This illustration shows the Monitor tab. Customers can configure and view important database metrics, including CPU percentage used, storage consumed, and data transfer capacity used. By monitoring the utilization levels, customers can adjust the performance level (up or down) to ensure that the database meets business requirements. Adjustments are limited to four changes in a 24-hour period. For example, a database may require additional performance during the last week of the month to handle business closing activities but require a lower level of performance the rest of the month.
