The latest major version of Dynamics CRM Online became generally available in May 2016. Current and upcoming versions of the online service are shown above. The Dynamics CRM team plans to deliver new features at least twice a year for CRM Online customers, usually in May and December updates; on-premises customers should see similar enhancements and fixes in major version releases and service packs once a year, usually in December.

CRM Online uses a customer-staged update process that does not require customers to immediately accept updates to the service except minor releases such as 7.1.1. Customers can elect to remain on their current CRM Online version as long as it is no more than one version behind the most current major version. (For example, the most current major version is 8.1, allowing customers to reside on version 8.0 or 8.1.) According to Microsoft, customers currently using CRM Online version 7.1 (CRM Online 2015 Update 1) must accept an update to CRM Online version 8.0 or 8.1 by the end of Aug. 2016.
