Charts & IllustrationsDynamics 365 CRM Timeline, Apr. 2024
Dynamics 365 CRM applications have varying support models, based on whether they are online or on-premises. The accompanying timeline shows release and support retirement dates for online applications (top) and on-premises applications (bottom).
Dynamics 365 applications are updated monthly, although Microsoft uses April and October to announce “Waves” of updates. Each Wave is not a single update but rather a semiannual marketing effort wherein Microsoft announces the new features and changes that it expects to reach public preview or general availability in the six months following the Wave release. However, based on previous Waves, many feature release dates slip, and some new features planned for public preview never arrive. Consequently, customers should not plan to test or roll out new features until they reach general availability.
Customer Relationship Management (CRM) online applications are updated monthly, and customers must accept updates within 30 days. There is no option to stay on a previous release; consequently, testing before major updates occur is essential. Semiannual “Waves” announce the start of a round of service updates, but they have no effect on support.
