Use of Dynamics CRM Online is licensed with four different types of User Subscription Licenses (SLs). The service combines a core client relationship management (CRM) product with Microsoft-hosted services to deliver marketing, sales, and customer service capabilities. The illustration shows User SL requirements for a variety of functions in a fictitious company that uses most of the product’s features. CRM Online and the company’s tenancy (middle) are hosted in a Microsoft data center and accessed via desktop, Web, and mobile clients.

External users are nonemployees or on-site contractors. External users here include customers (left) who access Dynamics CRM Online through a self-service Web portal that contains a knowledge base of products and vendors (left) who submit proposal documentation via a Web portal. These external users do not require a User SL because they do not access CRM Online using Microsoft’s Dynamics CRM client software.

Managers and analysts (bottom left) who access the product for general reporting and analysis purposes require a Basic User SL. Field service agents who access basic account information and create and update service cases but do not need advanced case management features only need a Basic User SL.
