Power BI Lineage view is a new management tool in the Power BI portal that provides a visual diagram of dependencies for Power BI datasets, dataflows, and reports. Power BI is a set of Microsoft’s business intelligence (BI) technologies that includes several tightly integrated software and Microsoft-hosted components.

Overview

Power BI reports use datasets that are often built via a combination of complex queries and integration processes (dataflows) that gather and combine data from multiple data sources, resulting in an intricate web of connections that are difficult to debug.

The Lineage view screen shows the upstream and downstream relationships for hosted content (dataset, report, or dataflow). It includes all items used to create the content and all items that use the content (top left). It also provides usage metrics for how many items and users are accessing the content (bottom right).
