RoadmapFabric Data Engineering Roadmap
Fabric Data Engineering, one of the main Fabric experiences, provides an Apache Spark development environment where data engineers can collect, store, and process large volumes of data, either in real time or on a schedule. As part of Fabric, Data Engineering uses the same UI, workspaces, and data storage components as the other Fabric experiences, allowing it to participate in end-to-end workloads. With Data Engineering, developers can create and collaborate on code stored in notebooks and libraries, create and manage data lake houses, build data pipelines, and run various jobs on an ad-hoc basis or based on a schedule or event as part of an operational workload.

Near Term (2024–2025)
The near-term roadmap for Data Engineering will focus on Microsoft bringing the new service to parity with the previous Synapse Spark Serverless pools and possibly the introduction of migration tools to help customers adopt the new service. However, it is unlikely that Microsoft will reintroduce .NET support, but rather focus on Visual Studio Code extensions to allow developers to write and test code locally before moving it to the service.
