Update Oct. 2025 – The deprecations increase with SSIS in SQL Server 2025 removing a list of outdate, although still used, connections and APIs. No need to panic though, the previous version SQL Server 2022 is supported until 2032, so there is plenty of time to adjust those ETL workloads.

SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) is a role in SQL Server, Microsoft’s long-standing on-premises database management and business intelligence (BI) software. SSIS provides features used to extract, transform, and load (ETL) data from various sources into one or more destinations on a routine basis.

SSIS is available in SQL Server and as a deployment option in Azure Data Factory, providing a hybrid solution for customers who need to continually move data between on-premises and the cloud.

Near Term (2025–2026)

SSIS has gone beyond stalling on-premises and will see an increase in deprecations leading up to SQL Server 2025’s release in late 2025. The only new feature listed for SSIS in SQL Server 2025 is support for a new SQL client; however, the list of breaking changes and deprecated items is quite long, including:
