One of the two ways for determining price discounts under Select Plus is a point system. The illustration shows five purchases across the top (with the point total for each purchase) and illustrates the resulting evolution of the customer’s point total and discount level (A through D) over three years.

Under the Select Plus point system, each purchase translates into some number of points. (See the chart “Examples of Point Values“.) A separate point count is maintained for purchases made within each of three possible product pools. (See the chart “Select Programs’ Product Pool Taxonomy“.) The quantity of points a customer accumulates within a product pool determines which of four discount levels (pictured on the left, with Level D offering the lowest prices) the customer receives for purchases within that pool. Points are added to a customer’s account whenever new purchases are made, and points are deducted as part of an annual releveling process. In this example, all five purchases are made within the same product pool.
