Analyst ReportCosmos DB: New Enterprise Query Options
- Cosmos DB is introducing new enterprise query options to address high-end requirements.
- Some options improve performance for cross-partition queries, removing a migration roadblock for some applications.
- Other options support new AI-based text search applications, like those in OpenAI.
Azure Cosmos DB, a multimodal data service, is expanding its query capabilities to include more options for customers to build applications to address complex requirements. Some of the new options provide traditional database management features, which could help customers migrate existing applications to the service. Other options are specifically designed to support AI-based search applications, which could help customers use Cosmos DB data for more workloads. (For more details on Cosmos DB, see the sidebar “Cosmos DB Data Models and Deployment Options”.)
Materialized Views for Diverse Query Requirements
Materialized views for the NoSQL API will address a performance issue found in partitioned databases that frequently process queries that cut across those partitions. For example, a Cosmos DB sales database in a global firm might be partitioned by geographic region to optimize processing of transactions by users in each region but might also need to support business intelligence (BI) applications that query the data by product type across regions.
