  • Dynamics 365 Business Central is now Microsoft’s primary enterprise resource planning product for small to midsized businesses.
  • Migrating from Dynamics NAV means reimplementing with new reports, add-ons, and customizations.

Dynamics 365 Business Central is available as a Microsoft-hosted service and on-premises server product. The offering uses the core engine from Dynamics 365 NAV 2018, which it replaces.

Dynamics 365 Business Central Overview

Business Central, like NAV, provides features for financial management, sales, purchasing, inventory and warehousing, project management, customer service, and operations. It is also used as a platform by partners to build “microvertical” applications for managing specific types of businesses, such as dental offices or breweries.

The Microsoft-hosted service was originally introduced in Nov. 2016 under a different name and the product went through various name and packaging changes before becoming Business Central in early 2018. The latest release, which arrived on Oct. 1, 2018, is the first version available for both online and on-premises.
