Dynamics 365 Licensing Change Cuts Costs for Field Service Customers

Dynamics 365 users with a Field Service User Subscription License (User SL) no longer require additional licensing to add or modify certain project-related data in Finance and Supply Chain Management applications. The licensing change, introduced in May 2024, will help organizations using the Dynamics 365 CRM and ERP applications make better use of Field Service capabilities without increasing license costs. Previously, Field Service users who created or updated work orders, which were electronically synced to Finance or Supply Chain Management projects, required double licensing. Specifically, users performing these tasks required Dynamics 365 Field Service and Dynamics 365 Operation Activity User SLs. The new rule enhances the Field Service User SL by adding the right to create and update projects and project journal entries, but only when the data is transferred through built-in integration features. The rights do not extend to any customer-created integration processes and do not grant licensed users direct access rights to the Finance or Supply Chain Management applications.
