Analyst ReportDynamics AX 2012 R3 Released
Dynamics AX 2012 R3, released on May 1, 2014, will benefit many organizations with improved retail, logistics, and business functionality, some of which are the result of integrated acquisitions. However, like Dynamics AX 2012 and 2012 R2, this version has substantial changes to the code base, data structures, and reporting features, as compared to AX 4 and AX 2009. The changes might require some organizations with a large number of customizations or internally developed reports on older versions of Dynamics AX to reimplement rather than upgrade their existing installations. New implementation features and development framework should help deployments and development for some organizations.
Business Functionality Fills Gaps
Dynamics AX is an enterprise resource planning (ERP) product aimed at multinational midmarket companies and enterprises. Sold worldwide, it is among the fastest growing of Microsoft’s ERP products. Dynamics AX now includes industry-specific capabilities for manufacturing, distribution, retail, professional services (such as consulting), and the public sector. Its major competitors are products and services from Oracle and SAP, although some major customers have adopted Dynamics AX for specific functions alongside incumbent financial solutions from those competitors.
