  • Dynamics GP 2018 is a new version that contains incremental changes and bug fixes that are more in line with a service pack release.
  • Future GP updates will deliver minor functional improvements and platform changes to remain compatible with the latest Windows Server and SQL Server versions.
  • Microsoft hopes to lure customers to Dynamics hosted services, but customers coming from GP will have to re-implement, not just migrate, and customizations will need to be recoded or replaced.

GP Overview

GP is Microsoft’s server-based enterprise resource planning (ERP) product for small to midsized organizations, mainly in the Americas and English-speaking countries. It is sold and supported by Microsoft partners and is typically customized by customers and extended with industry-specific third-party add-ons.

GP competes with Dynamics NAV, a server-based ERP product that specializes in manufacturing, distribution, and services businesses, and Dynamics 365 Business Central, Microsoft’s hosted service, which is based on NAV and the primary focus of Microsoft’s ERP investments for smaller businesses.
