Dynamics NAV 2016, the most recent update of Microsoft’s enterprise resource planning (ERP) solution for small and midsized organizations, became generally available in Oct. 2015. The new version focuses primarily on platform improvements that will benefit service providers and partners hosting large numbers of customers. The release introduces administrative features to help partners move their installations to Azure, and changes that eliminate many of the manual processes required to maintain and deploy customizations. Deeper integration with Azure and Office 365 services deliver new functionality; however, many features will require a Microsoft-service account.

Azure and Office 365 Integration

Continued integration with Azure and Office 365 remains a priority for the Dynamics team. Notable changes in Dynamics NAV 2016 include the following:

Prebuilt dashboards and reporting. Dynamics NAV content packs for Power BI, Microsoft’s hosted business intelligence (BI) service, provide preconfigured dashboards and reports based on NAV data sets. These content packs, which work with NAV 2015 and later versions, enable users to receive refreshed reports, such as sales, leads, and financial reports, and research data on a daily basis without having to access the NAV product.
